Figures & Faces

I have always enjoyed drawing figures and faces, so it was natural for me to explore both in the medium of enamel. The technique of Cloisonné lends itself to stylized imagery since the "drawing" is done with a thin ribbon of metal wire. Cloisonné designs are usually unique.

Other enameling techniques are more painterly in process and imagery, such as the photographic look of Grisaille, and actual painting techniques using finely ground enamel powders mixed with oils or acrylic mediums and applied with brushes as in any painting method....the difference being that the medium must be kiln fired for completion of the project.

I also employ a "silk-screening" process to transfer images into enamel. This involves carbon copying my original pen & ink drawings and "burning" a screen print through which enamel grains can easily pass, thereby transferring the image. Screen designs may be easily duplicated.

The following images are of a variety of faces and figures, past and present, created with a variety of enameling techniques. Each will be identified by title and technique used.
