Hummingbirds Our tiny summer guests. We have feeders and fuchsias and flowers to entice them to stay and entertain us during the warm months. They arrive in mid April, and spend six months buzzing around our house. Once, I rescued an abandoned baby hummer from beneath a climbing rose and nursed it along indoors for over a week until it could fly well enough to release. Later on liberation day when I returned from town, "Buzz" was waiting for me at the door.... wanting to be fed no doubt. I pointed to the feeder hanging outside and told him to help himself, which he did, but "Mr. Nasty" started dive bombing him until he was hung upside down on the feeder perch.... so I rescued him once more and kept him inside for another week. What a precious lodger ! The next time I released him, he flew straight up into the blue and disappeared. Now I wonder about the hummers who seem to look inside the windows when they visit. Could that be "Buzz" ?
Hummingbirds are a favorite subject for my cloisonné jewels. They're tiny, precious and brilliantly colored, thus perfect for the art of cloisonné enameling. The following images are some of the jewels I've made to celebrate Hummingbirds !
